TEXTS: “If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if in a safe land you fall down, how will you do in the jungle of the Jordan?” (Jer. 12:5).
“What then shall I do when God rises up? When he makes inquiry, what shall I answer him?” (Job 31:14).
I. Trials are sure to come. They are here today.
A. Personal trials.
B. Family trials.
C. Community disasters.
D. Wide-spread drought.
E. National and world turmoil.
II. Lost sinner! What will you do?
A. When you have hardened your heart to the Spirit’s call by repeated refusals to believe? (see Luke 14:16–24; Heb. 10:26–31).
B. When Jesus’ words (see Luke 13:24–27) are said to you?
C. What will you do in that last great prayer meeting? (see Rev. 6:12–17).
D. What will you do at the judgment throne? (see Rev. 20:11–14).
E. You who trust your works, what will you do when Jesus speaks the judgment described in Matthew 7:21–23?
What you will do in all these situations depends upon what you have done with Jesus the Christ and Lord. Or, if He delays His coming, what you will do.
CONCLUSION: Christian, the answer to life’s trials is in the promises of God in the Bible. Read Proverbs 3:5–6 and Psalm 37:5, and a multitude of such references. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe” (Prov. 18:10).
