Proverbs 4:25–27 NIV25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. 26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. 27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.
1. Let your eyes look straight ahead.
Set your eyes FIXED on what is AHEAD of you!
Isaiah 43:18 NIV18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.Isaiah 43:19 NIV19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Some of us are struggling to fix our eyes straight ahead because we do not perceive the new thing that God is doing!
2. Give Careful thought to the paths for your feet.
It’s impossible to put the needed focus and attention on each step when you are looking back.
Don’t focus on where your feet were yesterday, focus on what steps you are taking to move forward today.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
3. Do not turn to the right or the left
It’s when things start to gain momentum and is going well that we begin to relax and start letting our eyes wander just a little.
It’s in these moments that we need to be just as focused on what’s ahead as we were when we first started.
Great Example of Releasing Yesterday and Embracing today: Paul / Saul
Philippians 3:12–14 NIV12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
